Move over kale, we’ve become a nation obsessed with mushrooms, as latest sales figures reveal that brown mushrooms have grown by nearly 20% in the last year.* Around 11,461 tonnes of the humble vegetable were sold in March of this year alone – that’s 537 billion individual mushrooms and the equivalent weight to 22,922 grand pianos.
So why the surge in popularity?

It’s long been known that mushrooms count as one of our five a day, but since being named the superfood of 2018 by The Times earlier this year and increasing reports of LA health aficionados consuming mushroom lattes, it’s meant that the humble mushroom is having a moment in the spotlight.
